USATF Nevada Athletes score 1 National Title and 9 All Americans at the 2022 USATF National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships
COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Thousands of runners aged 7-18 toed the line at the Watts Cross Country Course on the campus of Texas A&M University in College Station for a shot at a USATF title. On a drizzly, 70-degree day, a dozen athletes left the Dale Watts Cross Country Course as USATF champions. USATF Nevada athletes had a solid day of running, returning back to Nevada with 9 (nine) All American Titles (Top 30 Finishers). Leading the way was Deshawn Turner (Unattached) running his way to victory and a National Title in the Boys 8 and Under race. Along with Turner, Blake Parrel (Unattached) and Caleb George (Flyin Kiwis) recieved All American Honors for their finishes 5th and 25th respectively.
In the Boys 11-12 race, Sawyer Hutton (Nevada Track Club) finished in the top 10 with his 6th place finish in the 3000m race. When the race distance moved up to 4000 meters for the Boys 13-14, USATF NV placed 2 runners in the top 25. Calvin Rivera (Flyin Kiwis) raced himself to 10th place finish with a time of 13:21.9. Brady Anderson (LV Speed) finished in 13:39.3 securing him a 23th place finish. In the last race of the day, the Boys 15-18 had a close and exciting race all the way into the last 100m of the 5000 meter distance. Within striking distance of the leader in the last 100m, Logan Scott (LV Speed) gave a strong surge but fell just short of victory to finish 2nd overall. Scott Lead his team to a 4th place finish with his strong performance. In that same race Kipruto Koech (Unattached) secured a top 10 finish at 10th with a time of 16:25.6.
